One of the most enjoyable aspects of blogging for Proven Winners is getting to know my fellow bloggers–accomplished gardeners and writers from all around the country. Recently my friend and fellow Proven Winners Garden Guru, Niki Jabbour, released her first book, The Year Round Vegetable Gardener. As an avid veggie gardener myself, I love this book! It is packed with information about how to extend your harvest so that you can garden year round, whether you live in Nova Scotia like Niki or in Florida, like me. Beautifully photographed and well organized, Niki shares her personal experiences and knowledge about gardening essentials such as succession planting, interplanting, selecting appropriate crops and using season extenders like row covers and hoop tunnels to protect crops (both from frost and from heat).
So, garden friends, would you like to win a copy of Niki’s book? And if that’s not enticing enough, Proven Winners is sweetening the deal with a box of 2013 trial plants, shipped directly to your door. How awesome is that? The plants are gorgeous and may include the following varieties:
• Superbells® Lemon Slice Calibrachoa (my favorite!)
• Senorita Blanca® Cleome
• Luscious® Berry Blend Lantana
• Blushing Princess™ Lobularia
• Supertunia® Watermelon Charm Petunia
• Colorblaze® Marooned Coleus
Here’s how to enter: Just go to the Proven Winners Facebook page and/or to Niki’s Facebook page and give it a thumbs up! Then go to Niki’s post on the Proven Winners site and leaving a friendly comment for her. You may enter up to two times, and the winner will be randomly selected by the folks at Proven Winners. The winner will be announced by by 5 pm PST on May 11th.
And if you’re in the mood to wander through the gardens of my Proven Winners pals, check out their personal blogs at:

i am hearing so many good things about your book, I can’t wait to read it.
Hi Rhonda:
I haven’t written a book yet, but I’m hoping to do so! You may be thinking about my daughter, NV Binder’s books. They are available here: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_c_1_8/180-3376347-1635251?url=search-alias%3Ddigital-text&field-keywords=redshift&sprefix=redshift%2Caps%2C198
Enjoy!
I’ve taken a break from veggie gardening but thinking it is time to regroup; plan something just a bit smaller and more manageable for ‘just’ me. I do a ton of herbs (I should do a streetside stand!) but no veggies for a couple of years. Maybe it’s time!
Hi Barbara: It’s time! Starting small is the best way to go, and it’s amazing how just a few plants can make you happy! I love herbs, too. Once you start growing them and cooking with them, it’s hard to imagine being without them.
Good luck!
Carolyn
gardening, photography and cooking…love it.
Great contest too.
