About Ten Days of Holiday Giveaways for Gardeners: For ten crazy days, I am joined by a bunch of great friends to give away some of my favorite products—all designed, written or produced by people that I know and love. You can check out this link to read the details about the participants and prizes. We’ll be gifting lucky winners with new garden tools, books, deck cards, and more throughout the contest! From a custom-designed De Wit potting scoop, to original botanical illustrations, to awesome gardening books to add to your personal library and much more, there will be lots of chances to win a special Christmas present for yourself or your favorite gardener. Why are we doing this? Well, because we love you, that’s why!
ANNOUNCING THE WINNER OF DAY TWO: Thank you all for your wonderful comments—Steve Asbell’s ego is justifiably inflated now, and the winner of an Asbell Original is…SHADY GARDENER! Congratulations! Please let us know what your favorite drawing is, and send your mailing address to cowlickcottage@gmail.com.
It’s Day Three of Ten Days of Holiday Giveaways for Gardeners, and the star of the show this evening is author, Chris McLaughlin! Chris is a good friend of mine, and a multi-talented lady. I think we actually got to know one another over our shared fascination with fiber. Chris is a spinner and creates beautiful hand-dyed homespun yarn from sheep that she raises on her family farm, and I am a knitter. It was awhile before we realized we also shared interests in gardening and writing. Chris is a Master Gardener with several books to her credit, and her new book, Vertical Vegetable Gardening, isn’t available for sale yet, but it’s available here for today’s lucky winner! This book is creating a lot of excitement in the gardening world, so get your copy and start thinking about gardening UP this spring! Oh, and one more thing about Chris…she’s beautiful!
I am a devotee of growing some veggies vertically, including my heirloom Tromboncino squash. One of them grew to be over three feet long! Vertical gardening has tons of advantages, including saving space, ease of harvesting, and adding beauty to your garden. What’s your favorite veggie to grow, and do you grow up or out?

How to win? It’s easier than buying a lottery ticket (and your chances to win are much better!). Visit Cowlick Cottage Farm each day to see what the prize of the day is, and leave us a holiday greeting in the comments section each day that you’d like to be entered for the contest. We’d also appreciate you sharing our posts on Facebook and Twitter if you are so inclined. I’ll be selecting a winner every day and announcing the winner and the next contest daily! Sound like fun? We hope you join us all throughout the contest to share in the fun and the holiday cheer! Have you been naughty or nice? PS: Being naughty does not disqualify you from entering the contest (being mean, however, does!).
Disclosure: Each of these gifts was provided at no cost to me so that I could give them away to you!

Happy hoildays to you and yours.
Happy holidays, Michelee!

Happy Holidays! Merry Christmas! Happy New Year! And most of all … HAPPY GARDENING!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Vertical Growing. We could all use more of it!
Growing up would be easier. I tried doing this for a cherry tomato plant last year. It didn’t work very well. I was trying to save space but then I had trouble seeing the tomatoes. live, garden and learn, right?! Merry Christmas!
A holiday greeting.
I have a small backyard and would love the book to learn about vertical gardening!!!! It would free up some space on my little deck!
Ho Ho Ho – Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas to all! I’ve got this book on my wish list, so would love an opportunity to win a copy! I grow my butternut squash vertically. Having a very tiny garden means I must take advantage of every space possible!
Wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year filled with all the veggies you can eat and share!
Merry Christmas to you and yours! Would love to have a copy of this book.
Up, up and away!
It’s another great day
To speak with my friends
And enter again
For a fabulous prize –
One on the rise!
A book to inspire
To grow veggies higher!
Merry Christmas!! Thanks for the opportunity to enter your contest!
Happy Holidays! I also love to grow tromboncino vertically, both to maximize space in our tiny garden, and to hide the chain link fence that surrounds it. The fruits are such a great conversation starter (some of mine have grown to 4 feet!), and they taste great either picked young and small (like zucchini) or mature (like butternut squash). And they are PROLIFIC… One year, we grew 315 pounds of them from just 4 hills trellised along the fence. I would REALLY love to win this book, as I have a 10 ft x 30 ft retaining wall that I would love to dress up!
Merry merry Christmas!!
We have a couple trellises set up in our veggie garden and would love more info on vertical gardening!
Wishing you a very Merry Christmas
Happy Holidays!! Great to spread the joy of the season around to all!

A great way to use space efficiently. Season’s Greetings.
It’s downtime for actual gardening, so the perfect time for garden reading, as well as relishing the harvest that’s been put aside in the past frantic months. Wishing you all the joys of this holiday season!
I want some ideas for vertical gardens. I am sure this book would be an inspiration
The merriest of holidays to you. I love Chris
